Nut Free Environment
Dear Parents and Carers,
We would like to remind all families that Briar Hill Primary School promotes a nut-free environment as part of our approach to reducing avoidable risks associated with food allergies and keeping our whole school community as safe as reasonably possible.
We recognise that a number of foods can cause serious and potentially life-threatening allergic reactions. Our approach is therefore not based on suggesting that nuts are more dangerous than other allergens, nor is it possible or practical for a school to be completely allergen-free.
We ask that parents and carers do not send nuts or products containing nuts into school, including in packed lunches and snacks. As nuts are not an essential part of a child's diet, this is a practical measure that can reduce the risk of accidental consumption and cross-contamination through food, hands and surfaces.
Children at Briar Hill Primary school with diagnosed allergies, are supported through appropriate individual risk assessments and allergy management arrangements.
We appreciate that no policy can remove all risk, but by working together we can take sensible and proportionate steps to reduce avoidable risks and help keep our children and staff safe.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
Miss Cooksley and Mrs Cross
