Sport and Enrichment News at Briar Hill Primary School

Sports and Enrichment at Briar Hill
Term 1 and 2 has been an incredibly positive and action-packed period for sport at Briar Hill, with pupils taking part in a wide range of competitive, inclusive, and developmental sporting opportunities.
Our pupils proudly attended the Football Horizon Day at Malcolm Arnold Academy, where they demonstrated excellent teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship while competing against other local academies. We also had the pleasure of hosting the Netball Horizon Day at Briar Hill. This event was a huge success, with our netball team performing exceptionally well and winning the tournament against four other local academies. The event showcased not only sporting talent but also leadership, cooperation, and respect across all schools involved.
We were delighted to welcome Mal from DRET Sport into school, who delivered a high-quality introduction to Sport programme. Pupils were introduced to handball and gymnastics, giving them the opportunity to develop new skills and experience sports they may not have previously encountered. These sessions were delivered in partnership with clubs within the local community, helping to strengthen links and encourage pupils to continue being active beyond the school environment.
DRET Sport also delivered an engaging Games Day, with a strong emphasis on inclusion, ensuring that all pupils were able to participate and feel valued regardless of ability. Alongside this, a Health and Wellbeing workshop was delivered to our Year 6 pupils, focusing on building confidence, promoting positive mental health, and preparing them for the transition to secondary school.
In addition, selected pupils attended a Boccia event at Malcolm Arnold Academy, where they experienced an inclusive sport that promotes teamwork, strategy, and accessibility. This event reinforced the importance of participation, respect, and enjoyment in sport.
We are extremely proud of our pupils for their enthusiasm, behaviour, and commitment throughout these events. Sport at Briar Hill continues to play a vital role in supporting physical health, confidence, teamwork, and overall wellbeing.
Stay tuned for more exciting sporting events and opportunities in 2026!
